* Gillis van Tilborgh Brussels circa 1625 - circa 1678

A pupil of David Teniers, the Younger, Van Tilborgh is recorded as initially having studied under his father before becoming a member of the painter's guild in Brussels in 1654.  His early work is comprised mostly of genre scenes of peasant life, such as tavern interiors and the village kermesse, painted in the manner of David Ryckaert and his master David Teniers.

The present work is accompanied by a photocopy of a certificate from Gustav Gluck dated 4 January, 1936.
