We are grateful to Dr. Wouter Kloek who, based on photographs, confirms the present painting to be by Isaacsz.

According to Van Mander, Isaacsz. began his artistic training in Amsterdam with Cornelis Ketel, later working with Hans von Aachen, with whom he travelled to Germany and Italy.  Isaacsz. left Amsterdam circa 1607-8 to return to his native Denmark and entered the service of the Danish King Christian IV.  The influence of Hans von Aachen, and of the Venetian palette both artists adopted in their travels together, distinguished Isaacsz.'s style throughout his career.
