Catalogue Note

The attribution is based upon comparison with the signed landscape formerly with Malmadé, Cologne, in 1936 (for which see P. Reelick, `Bijdrage tot Identificatie van der Meester der Winterlandschappen (G. Leytens?)', in Oud Holland, vol. LIX, 1942, p. 79, no. 16). Another landscape, unsigned but with a very similar disposition of the principal elements of both the landscape and figures, was sold in Amsterdam, Christie's, 11 May 1994, lot 39, as attributed to Leytens.
