Catalogue Note

According to Seymour Slive, K.E. Simon rightly noted that a Hobbema formerly in the collection Stracher, Vienna, and now in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. no. M.N.R. 738), on extended loan since 1961 to the Musée Baron Martin, Gray (Haute-Saône), closely corresponds to the painting (see Literature below for both) . Both paintings are datable to the late 1650s.
