Catalogue Note
Not many marines are known by this artist. A signed one with similar measurements is described by Bol as: Zwei Dreimaster in voller See, die vom Sturm überrascht werden, in silbergrauem Ton gemalt, which was, according to Bol, sold Brussels, 14 March 1921, lot 51 (see L.J. Bol, Die Holländische Marinemalerei des 17. Jahrhunderts, Braunschweig 1973, p. 173).
This lot is offered with a photocopy of a photo certificate by Dr W. Bernt, dated 17 May 1974, stating this work to be by Jacob van der Croos.
