Catalogue Note

This is a reduced contemporary copy after the presumed original by Lievens in the Musée Granet d'Aix-en-Provence in Aix-en-Provence (inv. no. 368; see H. Schneider, Jan Lievens, sein Leben und seine Werke, Amsterdam 1973, p. 93, no. 9, reproduced fig. 23).  There are some small variations in the present work, e.g. different figures in the background on the left.

Bears an old label on the reverse stating an attribution to Gerbrand van den Eeckhout.
