Catalogue Note
An almost identical composition was sold Stockholm, Bukowski, 26-28 May 2003, lot 39 (as a follower of Pieter Brueghel the Elder). Two comparable signed works by Vinckboons show a Couple fishing, albeit with the couple in reverse: the first, which is dated 1629, is in the Mecklenburgisches Landesmuseum, Schwerin and the second, dated 1630, was formerly in the Gemäldegalerie, Berlin (see K. Goossens, David Vinckboons, Antwerp/The Hague 1954, pp. 133-135, both reproduced).
