Paul Vredeman de Vries and Studio Antwerp 1567 - 1617 Amsterdam

This church scene can be compared with other works by Paul Vredeman de Vries, such as a signed Christ driving the money-changers from the Temple, dated 1609 with Hoogsteder & Hoogsteder, The Hague (see exh. cat. Tussen Stadspaleizen en Luchtkastelen, Hans Vredeman de Vries en de Renaissance, Antwerp, Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten, 14 September-8 December 2002, pp. 362-3, cat. no. 207, reproduced). The composition is also reminiscent of a print by Johannes Londerseel after Hendrick Aerts, which was much copied by Vredeman de Vries's contemporaries (Hollstein XI, no. 75).
