Catalogue Note
This picture can be dated early in the artist's career, to the 1620s or 1630s. De Vlieger's early work show the strong stylistic influence and monochrome palette of Jan Porcellis the Elder (c.1584-1632), which later transforms into a more transparent and silvery tonality.
