Catalogue Note
This is a rare example of an Italianate park landscape with elegant figures, of which there are only a few known by Storck, who mostly painted marines. There are some similar compositions known, such as a signed Elegant figures in a garden near a villa, dated 1686, a year earlier than the present work, which is with Galerie Sanct Lucas, Vienna, and a signed pair of Elegant figures promenading in the grounds of a villa with boats and a fountain, sold New York, Christie's, 27 January 2000, lot 10.
