Catalogue Note

Though executed in a slightly more painterly style, the present study can be compared with another of the same subject in the Victoria and Albert Museum, where the approach to the reflections in the surface of the grapes is extremely similar (see Hulton, op.cit., vol.I, cat.no. 23v, illustrated vol.II, pl. 29a).  See also lot 51, and introduction on pp. 38-9.
