Description

  • Jacques Le Moyne de Morgues
  • various studies of walnuts: a spray of leaves with nuts attached, a cross-section of the nut in its pithy casing, the outside of the shell, and the kernel
  • bears remains of numbering, largely cut, at the bottom
    watercolor and gouache, heightened with white (partly oxidized), over black chalk

Catalogue Note

Though catalogued here as "Attributed to Jacques Le Moyne de Morgues", the present work is very close in style and composition to the Le Moyne study of walnuts in the Victoria and Albert Museum album (see Hulton, op.cit. , vol.I, cat.no. 28, illustrated vol II, pl. 31).  See also lot 51, and introduction on pp. 38-9.
