Catalogue Note
Although this study has previously been associated with the Circle of Vittore Carpaccio (active 1472-1526), it does not bear any particularly close stylistic resemblance to Carpaccio's known drawings. It seems rather to be a work by an early 16th-century artist from the Veneto, such as for instance Giovan Francesco Caroto (circa 1480-1555).
