Catalogue Note

Although the handling is not entirely typical of the artist, the combination of a dynamic composition clearly influenced by Raphaelesque prototypes, an emphasis on chiaroscuro effects, and the use of this sort of greenish background tone, indicates that this impressive drawing cannot have originated very far from the hand of Pieter Coecke van Aelst.
