Catalogue Note
Dr. Jörg Mertz has confirmed the attribution to Cortona. Dating the sheet to the late 1660s, he compares it to a drawing of the Conversion of Saint Paul, formerly in the Ferretti Collection, sold London, Christie's, 2 July 1996, lot 49. The unidentified numbering is usually found on 17th Century Roman drawings, and is reminiscent of Padre Resta's numbering system.
