Catalogue Note
The few known works of Pietro Malombra clearly reveal the influence of Tintoretto and Palma Giovane. This sheet demonstrates his characteristic virtuosity in the arrangement of figures and his interest in creating a strong chiaroscuro effect. Further examples of his drawings may be found in the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna and in the Louvre.
