Catalogue Note
Drawings by Alsloot are relatively rare, which perhaps explains why they have often gone under other names. His draughtsmanship is, however, very distinctive, and this characteristic drawing is very comparable to a number of signed examples, most of them the same size as this, including one in the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris (see Renaissance et Maniérisme dans les Ecoles du Nord..., exhibition catalogue, Paris, Ecole des Beaux-Arts, 1985-6, cat. no. 121), two in Munich (see W. Wegner, Kataloge der Staatlichen Graphischen Sammlung München. Die Niederländischen Handzeichnungen 15.-18. Jahrhunderts, Berlin 1973, cat. nos. 202, 203), a further five at Schloss Wolfegg, and one sold, Amsterdam, Sotheby Mak van Waay, 18 November 1980, lot 20.
