Wolfgang Schulz did not include this drawing in his 1978 monograph on Cornelis Saftleven, but when cataloguing it four years later in his book on Herman Saftleven (see literature), he opined that it could be by either of the brothers.  In the catalogue of the Amsterdam/Dordrecht exhibition of 1994-5, Charles Dumas and Robert-Jan te Rijdt pointed out that the subject-matter seems more characteristic of Cornelis than of Herman, and therefore catalogued the drawing as "Attributed to Cornelis Saftleven," a description which Schulz has also recently endorsed.
