Catalogue Note

The castle of Heusden was situated not far from 's-Hertogenbosch. Roelant Roghman included no fewer than three views of this castle in his great series of drawings of Dutch castles, executed in around 1646-7; these are currently in the Teylers Museum, Haarlem, and in private collections (see Jhr. dr. H.W.M. van der Wijck and J.W. Niemeijer, De kasteeltekeingen van Roelant Roghman, 2 vols., Alphen aan den Rijn, 1989, vol. I, pp. 96-8, cats. 76-8).

Though in many ways comparable with the style of Claes Jansz. Visscher, this drawing also exhibits similarities with the work of Willem Buytewech, especially in the figure sutdies on the verso.
