This attribution is made on the basis of stylistic comparison with the group of drawings given by W. Schulz and K.G. Boon to van Hillegeart, an artist chiefly known for his painted battle scenes. Two drawings from the group are in Berlin (inv. 2775 and 2776, one reproduced in W. Schulz, Die Holländische Landschaftszeichnung, exhib. cat., Berlin 1974, fig. 24), and a further two were sold, one from the F.C.Butôt Collection, Amsterdam, Sotheby's, 16 November 1993, lot 67, the other London, Sotheby's, 21 July 1966, lot 86.
