This lot is accompanied by a letter of A.C.A.W. Baron van der Feltz to Mr Nijstad, which confims the attribution to Tozelli and gives the information about the provenance.

The career of this Italian-born pastellist has been described by Baron van der Feltz in his monograph on Tozelli's teacher, Charles Howard Hodges: see A.C.A.W. Baron van der Feltz, Charles Howard Hodges 1764-1837, Assen 1982, pp. 41-5, 346-7, cat. nos. T.13, T.14.  The attribution was confirmed by Baron van der Feltz, in a letter of 19 November 1981.
