Catalogue Note
As Dorine van Sasse van Ysselt recognised, the drawing inscribed Mahomet illustrates the fifth part of the fourth act of a play of the same title, by Voltaire. Five drawings by Jacobus Buys depicting various scenes from this play are in the collection of Mr and Mrs Buijnsters-Smets, Nijmegen. Professor Dr. I.Q. van Regteren Altena suggested drawing a) to be related to a theatre play by Noomsz.
