a handsome copy. rare. A history of the patriarchate of Alexandria, together with a history of Arabia and the Arabs before Mohammed, written in the early thirteenth century by Ibn al-Rahib. This work was translated from the original Arabic by Abraham Ecchellensis (c.1600-1664), who translated many works from Syriac or Arabic into Latin; he was born in Syria, but moved to Rome as a young man where he taught Syriac and Arabic at the Maronite College. Later he became involved in a dispute and went to Paris for a number of years, before returning to Rome, where he remained until his death.
