Leonard Campbell Taylor, R.A. 1874-1969

This previously unrecorded work by Leonard Campbell Taylor bears striking resemblance to The First Born of 1914 (see fig.1). The latter work, originally owned by the Corporation of Birkenhead, was widely exhibited for seven years following its completion, culminating in its showing at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool in 1921. Regarded as one of Campbell Taylor's most delightful works, the widespread acclaim received for The First Born may have prompted Campbell Taylor to paint the 'sister' work Mother Love using the same models to exhibit in Liverpool two years later.
