Catalogue Note

Stephen McKenna has lived and worked in various countries since the 1960s, although for the past decade his base has essentially been equally split between Ireland and Italy. Having risen in international prominence since the 1980s (a major show was held at the Hayward in 1986) he combines an Italianate feeling for neo-classical forms and motifs with a more modern painterly enjoyment of warm, undiluted colour.
