Painted circa 1932-6, Evening on an Irish Bog represents a typical composition for this period of Henry's career, the band of purple mountains which halt the recession of the eye and separate the sky from the water-logged foreground being a typical 'Henry' device which, although simple in concept, lends a sense of drama to the composition. The overall sense of stillness and timelessness are also charactersitic of Henry at his best.
