The present work is comparable in composition to several paintings executed at the Villa Le Rêve in 1947 and 1948, most notably, La Fougère noire and Grand intérieur rouge, both of 1948 (see: Henri Matisse: A Retrospective [exhibition catalogue], MoMA, New York, 1992, nos. 384 & 387).
