A French Louis XIV boulle, ivory and ebonized quarter repeating 'religieuse', Pierre LeMaire, Paris, circa 1685

8¾-inch velvet-covered iron dial plate, engraved brass chapter ring with roman numerals and outer arabic numerals for minutes, supported by a well-detailed gilt figure of Chronos seated on a rectangular reserve signed LeMaire de Paris, finely foliate pierced and engraved gilt hands, rectangular plated movement with five baluster pillars, verge escapement with silk suspended pendulum and cycloidal cheeks signed P. LeMaire A Paris, outer numbered countwheel striking on a bell, pull repeat quarter striking on three bells, foliate pierced striking gates, the straight sided tortoiseshell veneered case with foliate engraved brass inlay, the shallow domed cresting surmounted by six flambeau finials above a pierced brass frieze, the front corners with outset spiral ivory pillars with crisply cast Corinthian capitals, raised on channeled brass feet, restorations.

Pierre LeMaire was admitted as a master clockmaker to Faubourg St. Germain in 1674.
