Three rare white gold and enamel shaped wristwatches, Hamilton Watch Co., circa 1936

the first 'Piping Rock' with tonneau cut-out monogrammed case with flexible lugs; the second 'The Coronado' also with tonneau monogrammed case and flexible lugs; the third 'The Spur' with circular case with sculpted swirling bezel; each 14k, circular nickel lever movement, 19 jewels, bi-metallic compensation balance, silvered matte dial, subsidiary seconds, black enameled bezel with numerals, case, dial and movement signed; together with another rare 14k white gold and enamel square wristwatch, Elgin, circa 1927, square cut-out case with blue enameled bezel with roman numerals and flexible lugs, case, dial and movement signed; (4 pieces.)

In 1892, Henry J. Cain and Charles D. Rood purchased the Keystone Standard Watch Company and the Aurora Watch Company of Aurora, Illinois, and combined the two to form the Hamilton Watch Company.   Through 1941, the Hamilton Watch Company produced some three million and one hundred thousand watches.

In 1929 they released three models of wristwatches, 'The Piping Rock', 'The Spur' and 'The Coronado', all represented here.  All produced in gold with enamel bezels, these three models represent the height of Hamilton's wristwatch design and to this day remain among the most sought after pieces of their production.

The accompanying wristwatch in this lot represents the Elgin Watch Company's attempt at a similar design style.
