When the present painting was in the de Hirsch collection (see Provenance below), it was together with a pendant, Portrait of a Noblewoman and Three Children.  The pendant was sold in the Baroness de Hirsch sale, Paris, Galerie Georges Petit, June 17, 1904.  The pendant was later listed (in the 1932 New York auction catalogue and in Greindl, op.cit.) as in the collection of the Comtesse de Ganay, Paris.
