* Leonardo Coccorante Naples 1680-1750

We are grateful to Dr. David Marshall who, on the basis of photographs, confirms the present painting to be by Coccorante.  He also suggests that the figures in the present work are close to those in the Ruins with Scenes of Witchcraft in the Manual González Collection, Madrid (see The Golden Age of Naples, catalogue of the exhibition, Detroit 1981, pp. 91-92, cat. no. 14).  It has been suggested that those figures are painted by Giovanni Marziale (died 1731).
