Catalogue Note

Beatrice Rosenberg was born in 1913 and brought up in West London. She studied painting at the Royal Academy Schools from 1934-1939. Her association with the Notting Hill Synagogue inspired a fine series of works depicting the festivals to which the present work belongs. During this time she sometimes signed her works with the gender-free pseudonym Turtletob as she was unsure of the position of women in art circles. She was influenced by Expressionism in both her use of colours and dynamic compositions.
