Catalogue Note

The present watercolour dates from Chambers first visit to Holland in 1837. It depicts a Dutch boeier heading out from the shore, well laden with passengers. In the words of Alan Russett it is 'an outstanding example of Chambers' developed watercolour technique, stimulated by his Dutch visit' (see Literature, p.147)
