Catalogue Note

Thun is situated in the Canton of Berne in Switzerland and stands on the River Aar close to where it joins Lake Thun - about fifteen miles south-east of Berne itself.  Goodwin exhibited views of Thun at the Society of Painters in Water-colour in 1898 (no.118) and 1899 (no.30).  In the present watercolour the lake can be seen in the distance with the montains of the Bernese Oberland beyond.  To the right is the fifteenth century castle that dominates the town
