Catalogue Note
David Howard, op.cit., p. 683, no. U4, illustrates a dinner plate from this service, ordered by Lieutenant General Sir William Dalling, Bt. of Orval in Surrey, probably during his tenure as Commander-in-Chief of Madras during 1785 and 1786. It is interesting to note that while the coat is of Dalling, the crest and the motto are of Wyndham and derive from a maternal grandmother.
