Catalogue Note
This clock is based on a model, "La Douleur" by François Vion a drawing of which is conserved in the Bibliothèque Doucet, Paris, reproduced, Ottomeyer, Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. I, p. 247. The present model differs in that the female figure is emblematic of love, rather than of sadness.
