Description

Johan Christian Linning (1749-1801) was a Stockholm master 1779-1801 who supplied furniture to the court of Gustav III.
height 35in.; width 32in.; depth 22 3/4 in.
(89cm; 81.3cm; 57.8cm.)

the rectangular tilting adjustable top fitted with hinged flaps forming a shelf and a padded leather bookrest, fitted with a drawer to each side, raised on a square support and four molded scrolled legs carved with pinecones and rosettes. One drawer inscribed in pencil on the underside with the numbers 16/2 1793 for February 16, 1793. The second drawer also with pencil inscription.

Catalogue Note

The present table is very much influenced by English taste, attributable to the fact that Linning was between 1769 and c.1779, part of a Swedish colony of cabinet-makers working in London. This group who worked with John Linnell for a short period of time, included Georg Haupt, Linning's half-brother Christopher Fuhrlong and the designer David Martin.
