Catalogue Note
Identical figures of Psyche and Eros appear in an engraving after Pierre-François and Lucien-François Feuchère, said to be after a model by Claude Michallon (1751-1799) (illustrated Ottomeyer, Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, Vol. II, p. 669, fig.40, reproduced right)
An identical pair of figures supporting nearly identical candle branches dated circa 1815 was delivered by Claude Galle for the Château de Fontainebleau, illustrated, Ottomeyer, Pröschel et al., op. cit., Munich, 1986, Vol. I, p. 390, no. 5.17.3. Another example is in the Würzburger Residenz, and a pair from the Demidoff collection was sold, San Donato, Florence, 1880, lot. 940.
