Catalogue Note
The accompanying Extract from the Patek Philippe Archives confirms that this watch was manufactured in 1958 and sold on October 5th the following year.
Patek Philippe commenced production of reference 3417 in 1958. Not all examples of the reference were 'Amagnetic,' the 'Amagnetic' examples employed the calibre 12-400. Since the 1930s, watchmakers were concerned with adressing the problem of magnetism and used soft iron dust covers and the addition of anti-magnetic parts, often made out of gold, to achieve anti-magnetism. As was typical of the caibre 12-400, the present example includes the addition of a gold lever escapement and an iron dust cover. In 1960 Patek introduced the 27-400AM which they would also use on the reference 2570/1, a new Amagnetic model introduced that same year.
