It is believed that the reference 6204 was officially launched at the Basel Watch Fair in 1954, although production seems to have begun in 1953. This model was the first to feature the Submainer signature on the dial. The unusual central Submariner writing on the current dial may have been experimental during the early period of the reference's production. Originally with straight hands, it was quickly replaced with the now familiar Mercedes hour hand, as seen on the present example.
