Joseph Gott British, 1786-1860

In this charming work Gott has depicted Cupid resting with his bow lying in his left hand and his head on a casket carved with billing doves. These allude to lovers' embraces, confirming that Cupid's work is done. The composition is comparable to a terracotta of the young Bacchus dated 1824 while the shaped plinth is similar to others found on Gott's work.
