Description
- Isidore-Jules Bonheur
- cheval henissant (a horse calling)
- signed: I. BONHEUR.
- bronze, dark brown patina
Catalogue Note
This finely observed bronze is typical of the high quality of Bonheur's modelling, with its pricked ears, flaring nostrils and tensed muscles and sinews to its face and neck. Thus in spite of his feet being planted firmly on the ground, the moment is fully animated. Bonheur exhibited at least five single horses at the Salon between 1848 and 1899.
