Catalogue Note
The Cox & Sons foundry operated from 1874 becoming the Burton foundry until it closed its doors in 1939. Willis Good was the foremost animalier sculptor of the third quarter of the nineteenth century, to when the present bronze dates, during which time he regularly exhibited in the Royal Academy from 1870 until his early death aged 34 in 1879.
