Description

  • Jean-Jules Salmson
  • a pair of figures of Reynolds and Hogarth
  • each signed: Salmson.

Catalogue Note

Salmson, one of the leading sculptors of the Second Empire, was the son of a medallist and exhibited regularly at the Salon.  He displayed there a number of historical figures from English history such as Hamlet, Walter Scott, Shakespeare and Milton and it is likely that the present figures represent the painters Hogarth and Reynolds.
