Catalogue Note

The ship's canon in this lot was produced for the Amsterdam department of the Vereenigde OIostindische Compagnie by Pieter Seest. Born in Holstein in 1716, he was appointed foreman in the gun- and bell foundry of Amsterdam in 1755. In 1770 he became director of the foundry. A similar canon is in the collection of H.L. Visser.
