Sir Benjamin Simpson was a physician and officer in the British Army, serving in the Indian Medical Service from 1853 to 1890.  His skills also extended to photography, and he produced a series of portraits of the natives in Bengal that was shown in the International Exhibition of 1862 in London.  He also contributed images to the photographically-illustrated, eight volume The People of India, London, 1868-75.  He was stationed in Kandahar, in Afghanistan, during the second Afghan war.
