inscribed on a boxwood plaque on the name baton Jacobus Kirckman Londini fecit 1763

the lid of plain walnut, the side veneered with burr walnut panels with boxwood stringing and rosewood crossbanding, shaped brass strap hinges, the faciaboard and cheeks veneered with burr maple with boxwood stringing and rosewood crossbanding, the soundboard with later inset gilt metal rose pierced and carved with musical instruments centred by a sun mask, later jack rails, the five octave keyboard, FF to f3 omitting FF sharp, with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals, four brass-knobbed hand stops controlling two 8ft. and one 4ft. stops on the lower manual and one 8ft. and one 8ft. lute stops on the upper manual, on later trestle stand

Condition
There is an inscription on the reverse of the name baton Restored by Andrew Douglas, Ewell 1951. One open displaced crack in the centre of the sound board. Two old cracks in the extreme treble. Short side displacement amounts to less than 1cm. All jacks are later replacements. A joint in the lid has become unglued. Old marks on case exterior including a small area of old worm in the lid. Replacement front board. Modern rigid music desk.
