both three-quarter length, he seated, wearing a maroon coat and waistcoat, and a white stock, she standing, her arm resting on a table, wearing a gold dress, with a red cloak, holding a book

By descent to the sitters' daughter, who in 1741 married Sir John Frederick, 4th Bt., Burwood Park, Surrey;
By descent to Sir Richard Frederick, 6th Bt., who bequeathed the pictures to his nephew, the Rev. H.J. Fellowes;
Thence by family descent to the present owner

Catalogue Note

Sir Roger Hudson was the son of William Hudson , Commissioner of the Victualling Office, and his wife, Martha Parsons.  On 3rd July 1793 he married Emma Susanna Vansittart, daughter of Peter Vansittart, who came to England from Danzig in 1670.  This fine pair of portraits hung at Burwood Park until 1873.
