33-cm brass dial, engraved chapter ring with Roman numerals signed Johannes de Ruyter Amsterdam, engraved centre with apertures for day/day-sign and date, subsidiary seconds, polychrome painted surround with deities over a theatrical opening showing the automaton with 9 ships rocking in front of a painted landscape with moonphase, connected to the movement with anchor escapement and trip repeating Dutch quarter rack striking on two bells, alarm removed, burr walnut veneered case with shaped top surmounted by a well carved gilt wood Atlas and two angels, shaped moulded cornice with carved cresting, front and side frets, glazed door with brass capped pilasters, trunk with canted corners, waisted door with carved cresting and flower inlay, Father Time lenticle, bombed base with flower inlay raised on claw feet, possible alteration.
