Catalogue Note
The sitter was the daughter of John Leslie, 1st Duke of Rothes, by Anne, daughter of John Lindsay, Earl of Crawford and Lindsay. She married firstly, James, 3rd Marquess of Montrose, circa 1681. He died in April 1684, and in May 1687 she married secondly Sir John Bruce, Bt., of Balcaskie and Kinross.
